Roots
I’ve always been a relatively creative human. For most of my college years I worked towards a double major in Fine Arts and English Literature – eventually changing the Fine Arts major to a minor in Photography.
I was happiest in the art studios – whether enduring a class critique or the late nights I spent there finishing projects.
The art scene was definitely my place and my fellow artists were definitely my people.
After my first day in photography class, I knew that would be my focus. For me, there is something almost romantic about creating a photograph. Creating was the healthiest outlet I had for dealing with any sort of negative energy – whether it was anxiety, depression or anger.
Then I graduated and moved back to my hometown and started to neglect that creative part of myself. I packed my art supplies into boxes and even donated my camera with the intention to invest in a nicer model – which never happened.
And it wasn’t just the photography I took a break from. I also gave up drawing, doodling, painting, ceramics, printmaking, etc. One day I realized five years had gone by and I had stopped creating things altogether.
But since the beginning of this project, I’ve given more of my time to my creative soul – and she is doing beautiful things. I can’t wait to share them with you.
