Gifting Magic
My memories of Christmas as a child are magical. My mom and dad went all out to make each Christmas so very special for my brother and me. The house was always decorated like a winter wonderland. Each room had a Christmas tree. I was always taken to see the Nutcracker ballet. And on Christmas morning there were always gifts galore.
I am beyond blessed to have parents who worked very hard to gift me such a life, and who love me beyond measure. I know I’m one of the lucky ones. I’m very aware of the millions of children who were not dealt the same blessings. My heart breaks for all the little girls and boys around the world who don’t know the same magic that I knew. So I knew that I wanted to use some of my “gift money” to give at least one child a better Christmas.
The perfect opportunity presented itself to me when I was in Cincinnati a few weeks ago and came across a gift tree in the lobby of my hotel. If you’re unfamiliar with this concept, a gift tree is filled with tags that each hold information for one child or family who could use a little extra love during the holidays. The card does not give out personal information but let’s you know the gender, age, clothing size and 1 wish of each child.
I read over so many of the little green tags and as soon as I read about the little artist whose Christmas wish was to have new art supplies, I knew she was my perfect match.
A 7-year-old little girl will receive a bundle of brand new art supplies, and a very cool new little outfit. I hope this one small gesture will make a difference for her. I hope she continues to create and that the world will be kind to her. If you’re one of my humans who didn’t receive a Christmas gift this year, I hope you read this and know that in lieu of your gift – you and I made a little girl’s Christmas wish come true.
